I've made an altered box for the challenge over at <a href="http://www.vintagejourney.com/2018/01/think-inside-or-outside-box.html">A Vintage Journey Blog</a> where the theme is "think inside or outside the box"<br />
I love to alter old cigar boxes, it's very time consuming but so much fun!<br />
Here is my mixed media box using found objects, a vintage doll face and lots of texture elements. I really enjoy trying to use as many random bits I can find, often 'trash' I found laying around on the ground, lol (free embellishments!)<br />
Here are some pics:<br />

A while ago I accidentally deleted a years worth of blog posts and it was kinda frustrating. Also it's much easier to post pics on Instagram and be done with it, haha. I got some new Lindy's Stamp Gang sprays for my birthday and when I saw this month's moodboard I was inspired to make something rusty<br />
<br />

Go <a href="https://lindysgang.blog/2018/01/01/lindys-january-challenge/">here</a> to check out the challenge!<br />
<br />
I started out with an old canvas that I covered in tissue paper then added a vintage doily to the middle. I love those and had to force myself to use it because I am such a hoarder! Then I added some crackle paste and started gluing the elements on. I wanted to use some keys that I had altered and that funky broken guy with wings. It came together pretty easily and then I got to have some fun adding some texture and then color. I used some found objects and some art stones as well as microbeads and glitter (a requirement for the <a href="https://lindysgang.blog/2018/01/01/lindys-january-challenge/">Lindy's Challenge.</a>Here are some photos:<br />

OMG, I cannot believe I haven't updated this blog since June of last
year! My only excuse is that once I joined Instagram, it was so much
easier to just post there where my fellow art friends could see mine and I can see theirs. But I have missed it!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0CBuNXaT2nuQHpC4Oa_YLlxx1tA_IYGFCaqBt4ml_IjQmuezSwjAFIxiTAYlnk85fTOfVge6255P5vO9Y0HEyOKF1-LYmvujppQyluAo25k0gwGxZscgU7brPjLtJ3Q2MqS-eiwLfPgKu/s320/IMG_9952.jpg" width="230" /></div>
I joined in this fantastic artist challenge hosted by <a href="http://adogslife-thirteen.blogspot.com/">Tina Walker</a>, where we were all sent the same (or just about the same) materials to create an art piece with, and it involved over 60 participants from around the world! I must say that it was
somewhat challenging, I haven't really worked with fabric and the
biggest item in the box of goodies was a piece of fabric! And there were
two other pieces of fabric to incorporate. It was easy to come up with
the idea of the rolled back canvas as I had been wanting to attempt that
for a while. I thought it would help give a fun, whimsical look. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I ended up painting the white/beige/black fabric green and making it my
"grass" and added some little balls and glitter. <a href="http://www.beaconadhesives.com/">Beacon</a> provided (in our
package of goodies) some trial tubes of their fabulous "fabritac" which
made gluing the fabric and all the embellishments so much easier. The
view master reel and gears immediately screamed "flower" to me, so that
came together pretty quick. I used the thread to hand stitch the flower
stem, and the wires to make hearts going around the flower. The stencil
from <a href="http://www.stencilgirlproducts.com/">Stencil Girl</a> was used on the top canvas to make a pattern around
the perimeter. The molded pieces (flowers, gear and dragonfly) were made
with <a href="http://www.moldputty.com/">Amazing Casting Products</a> Resin. The trickiest part was the
dragonfly, I just didn't know where to put it! I glued my top, rolled
back canvas onto the bottom canvas that was already painted/decorated. I
was going for a window effect. </div>

I found this project to be very hard to photograph, there are a lot of details that don't come across on my lousy old iphone camera but if you click on the photo you can probably see the glitter and the heart wire thingies a little better. I used various kinds of fine and glass glitter, microbeads and Lumiere paint. <br />

I really loved being a part of this project and having to step outside
my comfort zone and use my creativity in ways I haven't in a while. I
cannot wait to see what everyone else has created! The sneak peeks I've
been seeing on Facebook are fabulous, so many different styles! <br />

<div>
<span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: medium;">And here is my layout:</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgl53rc8dZAQkPoqicoVnXTQVYkCxaUUOLQZ0gjQZKfpZJb9i9dtSdOarscK3uVxUd2JhDCgONv3vHzIymiAudMem9s3g_nkqq_-kmsQhM9rsRWxzKX7BcE-kdXYISAEwHN8azAhsJCeHsq/s1600/Happymothersday.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgl53rc8dZAQkPoqicoVnXTQVYkCxaUUOLQZ0gjQZKfpZJb9i9dtSdOarscK3uVxUd2JhDCgONv3vHzIymiAudMem9s3g_nkqq_-kmsQhM9rsRWxzKX7BcE-kdXYISAEwHN8azAhsJCeHsq/s1600/Happymothersday.jpg" height="320" width="298" /></a></div>
I started out by mod podging a napkin onto a cake circle because I am not great at cutting neat circles and I wanted to make a round layout for a challenge at the Flying Unicorn. I then glued lace around the perimeter and added some paper layers and my photo. I had these embossed swirls laying around and they matched so I added them, as well as the embossed gold piece on the top. Then I glued on a few flowers and added "Happy Mother's Day" in stickers. I made this for me, to display...to celebrate Mother's Day (the photo is my beautiful daughters). They really are the best thing that ever happened to me and my greatest gift. I hope all you moms out there have a wonderful Mother's day doing something fun with the ones you love!<br />

I planned to send these to my nana and my mom so I didn't want to make them to dimensional in fear they would get squished. Our theme for the design team at <a href="http://www.scrapping4funchallenges.blogspot.ca/2014/04/challenge-15-use-stampdigi-image.html" target="_blank">Scrapping4FunChallenges</a> was "anything goes but you must use a stamped image or sentiment (or digi)." Hope you will play along with us!<br />

This was not the easiest for me to complete, but I'm pretty happy with the way it came out and I can't wait to try it again with different colors! Her tut is in the "challenges" section of the forum and it was from last month. She is amazing at this kind of work and I was so thrilled that she shared her process on how to make this. I was thinking of my nephew who likes keys when I created this and I hope he likes it!!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgiYEnmhHqFCkM4uvE_W_IU9sicjXvQyYiaRQX9PJiZBKrEQgeXAJKBfJjm4Isw7-_1C6mOm7fwKE2oVqu3V5WZf6Uq3VyreKim1s1z_pVJiWE9Ee9bP-i-ZMS93coOUyiUgd5DN7dds21y/s1600/016.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgiYEnmhHqFCkM4uvE_W_IU9sicjXvQyYiaRQX9PJiZBKrEQgeXAJKBfJjm4Isw7-_1C6mOm7fwKE2oVqu3V5WZf6Uq3VyreKim1s1z_pVJiWE9Ee9bP-i-ZMS93coOUyiUgd5DN7dds21y/s1600/016.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
As you can see it started out as a plain wood box I picked up at the thrift store and I glued the keys on the top.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjzpbTTIargLrQC3dzcLrznVc8m2qnBVJ8RCYaUoNiXTFHLRf6gex-LdR75aS7bB2-txQ95txq34cKuSgwH74lHomVAK8nZJqc16yHHFebBFDdlUjjnOCH7077B1rLHIoc1A6jawiVzNb05/s1600/022+(2).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjzpbTTIargLrQC3dzcLrznVc8m2qnBVJ8RCYaUoNiXTFHLRf6gex-LdR75aS7bB2-txQ95txq34cKuSgwH74lHomVAK8nZJqc16yHHFebBFDdlUjjnOCH7077B1rLHIoc1A6jawiVzNb05/s1600/022+(2).JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
Next I ripped off a large piece of foil, crumpled it, then smoothed it out....then glued it over the whole box cover using mod podge.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg9jEKTgqmESgy-IyL2DpA_k3E8qvW7ckEeLGXLb-qD4a9ohkLVYJFZ4t2gh01B6qiDK6PH355-FqoEX7ePCL4mkwCZN_JsXI7Ezsi7QEaPNbxHvF-mLyHwf3xnnRwslhI1SDD4fph7ynKN/s1600/023+(2).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg9jEKTgqmESgy-IyL2DpA_k3E8qvW7ckEeLGXLb-qD4a9ohkLVYJFZ4t2gh01B6qiDK6PH355-FqoEX7ePCL4mkwCZN_JsXI7Ezsi7QEaPNbxHvF-mLyHwf3xnnRwslhI1SDD4fph7ynKN/s1600/023+(2).JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
Next I used acrylic paint and painted over the cover.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhYoeEJsD-wnOnK2qScr5YlR5UsSuIQG8ljnmoi5N8cSgKqO-UQ5iRQW4c4VN8XSCj8ZXixSdikBhmh9Q_wpYMiFseX6OZIotDc3EbPCiWdI5Itv28e9YQE3bdnYg7ENhbngqujV14yxPYx/s1600/053.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhYoeEJsD-wnOnK2qScr5YlR5UsSuIQG8ljnmoi5N8cSgKqO-UQ5iRQW4c4VN8XSCj8ZXixSdikBhmh9Q_wpYMiFseX6OZIotDc3EbPCiWdI5Itv28e9YQE3bdnYg7ENhbngqujV14yxPYx/s1600/053.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
OK then you have to cover the whole box with black paint (MAKE SURE THE BLUE IS DRY FIRST) then wait until its slightly dry. Then you will use a ton of baby wipes or towel etc. to rub a bunch of the paint off, exposing the blue underneath.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7wKk25n2Pn2ZVBtuVgYAA6dQiydGnb7nKrt-yj7B_QCLZvwZK-VdjWzsz_dA9rtMvIOv2rL3OZJ5yqQ_545-zHxc0xSfo1ETJKWwUq3e5h_fSc7jlmllWbSb5GK6Zbh5IIMDsRdNB9B3n/s1600/026.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7wKk25n2Pn2ZVBtuVgYAA6dQiydGnb7nKrt-yj7B_QCLZvwZK-VdjWzsz_dA9rtMvIOv2rL3OZJ5yqQ_545-zHxc0xSfo1ETJKWwUq3e5h_fSc7jlmllWbSb5GK6Zbh5IIMDsRdNB9B3n/s1600/026.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
I apologize that I don't have pics of the last steps, I was covered in paint! Once I wiped off some black, I used Rub N Buff to highlight some of the keys and then added back in a little blue paint. I painted the rest of the box black, then dry brushed some blue all around the sides then glued on the front embellishments. Here is the result:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I made some mistakes and kept ripping the tin foil, but it was really fun to try something I had never done before and I'm sure with some practice I will get better! Please leave me a comment or link if you try or have tried this technique, I would love to see!<br />
Thanks to<a href="http://eclecticpaperie.blogspot.com/" target="_blank"> Eclectric Paperie</a> for the inspiration to use wood (their month's challenge) and I am also going to enter into the <a href="http://blog.inspirationemporium.com/" target="_blank">Inspiration Emporium </a>challenge for using your "favorite things" (keys and Silks!)<br />

I decided a few months ago to alter each page with an inspirational quote that I could display in my studio and make me smile. In case you didn't see it, here is my first page from a few months ago:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXALdRN99EN4W5PDajep8CvIEp5I4iYADnqowgX3n7m52Scxa08aeuwEsgfKwDD1t4H8ZrQ9s_YwMaipkNPLa7ow1uW0ihMH1IGA7ceRYvUOCZhKoGqK6eaMBEVhF4ah348fx0mWPCklQv/s1600/Hopes.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXALdRN99EN4W5PDajep8CvIEp5I4iYADnqowgX3n7m52Scxa08aeuwEsgfKwDD1t4H8ZrQ9s_YwMaipkNPLa7ow1uW0ihMH1IGA7ceRYvUOCZhKoGqK6eaMBEVhF4ah348fx0mWPCklQv/s1600/Hopes.jpg" height="320" width="246" /></a></div>
This time I decided to use a mauve/purple combo which not everyone loves, but I do! I painted the pear after priming, with acrylic paint from 13 Arts, then added some texture through a stencil using Art Anthology velvets. I added a resin butterfly, metal key and a ribbon from my stash. Looking at this makes me happy. I can't wait to make page #3.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJKvXWuvp3ItqD3vG2T-EwUDKm5E0u4e73xusnkuDOzPu19m0Nur6sZgqVs_lumE98L0cqj8vY_dTDmKcy-8ft7KAANApTkQcCSi5amLT31sv7aJtpbUmVl5KP7K1ZBEuhHp767roqR-fw/s1600/036+(5).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJKvXWuvp3ItqD3vG2T-EwUDKm5E0u4e73xusnkuDOzPu19m0Nur6sZgqVs_lumE98L0cqj8vY_dTDmKcy-8ft7KAANApTkQcCSi5amLT31sv7aJtpbUmVl5KP7K1ZBEuhHp767roqR-fw/s1600/036+(5).JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
I added some Prima roses and tried to get the stem to sparkle using some glitter glue but it's not showing up great in the photos.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEju9DQ_4H6f6usg0UFmXPDkJDFP0rU0UdbK0sOY33jfkboGdxFPaaSfU0YBxzUMEKEb8MbzdzbeqnzaZREr-3mXKQEjaeNTPBh_fdDNv7pxOiQzHHqYxhL4po7UDStzK2DB_vqLtW36LjPb/s1600/038+(5).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEju9DQ_4H6f6usg0UFmXPDkJDFP0rU0UdbK0sOY33jfkboGdxFPaaSfU0YBxzUMEKEb8MbzdzbeqnzaZREr-3mXKQEjaeNTPBh_fdDNv7pxOiQzHHqYxhL4po7UDStzK2DB_vqLtW36LjPb/s1600/038+(5).JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
I am a huge fan of the <a href="http://eclecticpaperie.blogspot.ca/2014/04/eplay-challengewood.html" target="_blank">Eclectic Paperie</a> blog so I would like to enter this into the challenge for this month that is all about "wood."<br />
I would also like to link up with another favorite site, <a href="http://frillyandfunkie.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Frilly and Funky </a>where the challenge is "flights of fancy" and must include a winged thing...in this case it would be the resin butterfly. <br />
<br />
Thanks for joining me today, I hope you have a fabulous week!<br />

LOL> I was inspired by <a href="http://berry71bleu.blogspot.nl/search/label/March%20Challenge?updated-max=2014-03-17T02:30:00-05:00&max-results=20&start=4&by-date=false" target="_blank">Berry7Bleu's</a> challenge to use the word "Luck/y," green and some lace. I love this photo of my daughter's trip to Disney World. She was dressed in her "princess dress and tiara," eating a Mickey ice cream and waiting for the 3:00 parade to start. This is one of my favorite memories of her, she is almost 8 and Disney does not hold the same magic, so you gotta grab those moments and cherish them. <br />
I love using the green punchinealla on the page, it really pops in the photo. I also really love these papers and have been hoarding them for a few months (what else is new?). So here is my layout~ Thanks for visiting me today! Sarah xoxox<br />

Yes my bad pun was intended...I (Sarah) am here today to share my latest project with you for Genuinely Jane Studios. I started off with the owl book and decided to paint the front cover to resemble an actual owl, despite my daughters' repeated requests to paint it purple and pink! <br />
I didn't really have a plan when I started, just knew I wanted the owl to look somewhat realistic. I found a box of Target vase filler that I had bought on clearance and was just sitting around so I decided to use up that. I am trying to get creative and use up the ridiculous amount of stuff I have accumulated already. The box was filled with grass and dried flowers...everything needed to make a perfect nest. Here is my owl:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5VSlA2dBkXobhuAH5z1QLGsuzLCpvVGMnPc5HS5aw50JAESq2xJPP1DzOcRcELk6PYvDj9Wz7M_R6i3CM2UeeSYL2t4x83p0oyuCEmGOB7f-5p0vKrw3JEG-3KiQvLHxYm5LP0GiIrayY/s3200/006.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5VSlA2dBkXobhuAH5z1QLGsuzLCpvVGMnPc5HS5aw50JAESq2xJPP1DzOcRcELk6PYvDj9Wz7M_R6i3CM2UeeSYL2t4x83p0oyuCEmGOB7f-5p0vKrw3JEG-3KiQvLHxYm5LP0GiIrayY/s3200/006.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
I started out with the <a href="http://www.genuinelyjanestudios.com/newsite/cubecart/index.php?_a=product&product_id=27" target="_blank">owl wood book</a> from the store. I first gessoed it then added acrylic paint to the owl. I used a 12x12 shadowbox from Graphic 45 (the inside box) then added a piece of Prima Sunrise/sunset paper. I wanted the owl to appear three dimensional so I propped it up by adding wooden spools. I then added all my dried grass, flowers, etc with hot glue. The bird was a cut out from a magazine. I thought it would make a nice decoration for my living room and it was really fun to make! Here are some close ups:<br />
<br />

I would love to share my first ever book that I have altered the inside of! I have altered several journal and book covers, but have never done anything with the pages. I was so inspired by this month's challenge at <a href="http://eclecticpaperie.blogspot.ca/2014/03/eplay-challenge-alter-book.html" target="_blank">Eclectic Paperie</a>. I am first sharing my cover as part of my design team project for <a href="http://www.scrapping4funchallenges.blogspot.ca/" target="_blank">Scrapping4FunChallenges</a>. This time, we would like you to use some lace and buttons on your creation. Here is my cover:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFYkPVSg3O31RbuYhhGDFlrz1osgihyteZdWywMjAcbCZECzXVjfuqem0bwJN1GfSvhH0sGfgET_Q9e8hzu8YrPeLyvbJt2zoUNe82XwhdD87EiwxTP9wpaJCrHPNaI-ckJhU9gAAnncty/s3200/cover.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFYkPVSg3O31RbuYhhGDFlrz1osgihyteZdWywMjAcbCZECzXVjfuqem0bwJN1GfSvhH0sGfgET_Q9e8hzu8YrPeLyvbJt2zoUNe82XwhdD87EiwxTP9wpaJCrHPNaI-ckJhU9gAAnncty/s3200/cover.jpg" height="320" width="238" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
This is how the book started out:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3sUTfOegski7r2XDTuLnxAxi1Eere2zcpK0w4zphs-q378n1lN294ViJLGTFN215O3FWg_OvsAaOJUm_rmmjxLdBVwUFSFE8zG9eaHClWbeBTkDsdT46iMsgoD0plqOc4LyqlWzKA-D-h/s3200/096+(2).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3sUTfOegski7r2XDTuLnxAxi1Eere2zcpK0w4zphs-q378n1lN294ViJLGTFN215O3FWg_OvsAaOJUm_rmmjxLdBVwUFSFE8zG9eaHClWbeBTkDsdT46iMsgoD0plqOc4LyqlWzKA-D-h/s3200/096+(2).JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
I first covered it in gesso, then added some rubber stamps for texture (Not with ink but just for the impression).<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPkOXx1jl4DHp_6D11QmirTDfweT7lyLWdTppSfoYqsGFPX2kXQ1pSGdpWjj6mKFwekUCAqM36ePSyiRRoIrz-CpgOWgfj5Af9K1r8RcMwS134UdeiXJnPuZbTpMqFmzrCs502cH6Jv4to/s3200/100.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPkOXx1jl4DHp_6D11QmirTDfweT7lyLWdTppSfoYqsGFPX2kXQ1pSGdpWjj6mKFwekUCAqM36ePSyiRRoIrz-CpgOWgfj5Af9K1r8RcMwS134UdeiXJnPuZbTpMqFmzrCs502cH6Jv4to/s3200/100.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
I then added some fussy cut paper, lace, buttons etc. I made a bookmark out of twine and metal embellishments. I watched the video on the EP blog and it was very helpful! I tore out some pages of the book and glued the remaining into bunches of 3 or 4, then gessoed. The book has some really cool images that I wanted to keep, so I glued/gessoed around them, working them into my first two altered pages.<br />

II already posted these two altered pages in previous blog posts, so this is just kind of a reminder of what they looked like. I am creating my own book of fairy tales, each page will tell a different story. Here is a look at the second page:<br />

I had so much fun creating this book and I'm really looking forward to creating more pages. It really was much easier than I thought to get started, I can't wait to alter to more books in different sizes! You should try it too! Have a great day!<br />

I would like to share my second project for the challenge at <a href="http://7dotsstudio.com/archives/category/blog" target="_blank">7 Dots Studio</a> featuring "Magic and wonder." I just love their papers and can't wait to check out their 3 new lines! It is hard to find them locally so I must by them online. For this 6X8 canvas I have used a piece of paper from the "messy head" collection, under the chipboard tree with the stars. I am lately enjoying making whimsical pages and canvases, and I really enjoyed this challenge! <br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I used lace and Lindy's Stamp gang sprays, along with some mesh tape, fussy cut images, cheese cloth, stamping and flowers from Manor House. For the chippy, it started out magenta, then I put Ferro paste, didn't like the way it looked so I gessoed it then crackled painted it and added some purple Inka Gold. It went through a lot! Then I glued some wooden stars on it and ran over them with the Inka Gold as well. </div>

I am having a blast doing this, I wish I had started sooner! I was inspired by <a href="http://13artspl.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">13 Arts </a>of course, by their create your own background challenge. I used a lot of gesso, paint, ink, stamping, some resin and little bling. My book is going to be a collection of my own little "fairy tales" and this one involves a young girl and her dreams of becoming a ballerina...will she? I'm not sure yet, but it is her dream and her passion. Thank you for taking the time to check out my blog, it is really hard for me to get followers so I appreciate every one of you that is reading this right now!! Thanks! Here it is:<br />

Good morning friends, I am sharing today a page I made in my altered book. The challenge this month at <a href="http://mixedmediaplace.blogspot.com/2014/02/what-are-you-feeling-vol-3.html" target="_blank">Mixed Media Place</a> they are having a challenge that's all about sadness and how that reflects in your artwork. This challenge resonated with me, as I often feel a range of emotions when I create. Lots of people say that they feel just happy when they are creating and I wondered if I was the strange one who feels (not only) happy, but oftentimes other, darker emotions...anger, solitude and yes sadness. Creating art is a form of therapy for me, and I feel better after a session with ink and paint. <br />
I decided to alter this old book that was once a favorite of my 9 year old, but she decided to get rid of it. It's full of really magical drawings and I've had a blast playing with it! My first time altering a book on the inside and I don't know what took me so long!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiB3MrwKuYunZqG3a3AsCcRwLcOczS7EffGf4wepLtyVPIEa-WorzZcrfurzQsZ6aMSZVf7mNRzhfF3pcOqDt-iGvb8fFn3hIvD1Q3h93V29-F4qUd-n_NwDvCxkEGVmvUc1ZvAjDdGzwIT/s1600/092.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiB3MrwKuYunZqG3a3AsCcRwLcOczS7EffGf4wepLtyVPIEa-WorzZcrfurzQsZ6aMSZVf7mNRzhfF3pcOqDt-iGvb8fFn3hIvD1Q3h93V29-F4qUd-n_NwDvCxkEGVmvUc1ZvAjDdGzwIT/s1600/092.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
I was also inspired by the challenge at <a href="http://www.13artspl.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">13 Arts</a> which included making your own background on a scap page, canvas, art journal etc. For my background I used acrylic paint along with pearl pink and pearl violet Ayeeda Mists by 13 Arts. To add to the texture, I used tons of Ayeeda Powder 3D glass filler. I had so much fun making this background, it was hard to stop! I just kept adding layers until I was afraid I wouldn't be able to see the image any more. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBhg_G7j_SNNwHnvfjP8dwx2u8KhBqyWDW1G2MuQYCbHdWrxj0XMDs3GftzD-TPvagmxGgQ3s2e1HW8AdHo0nRn_XY-fRv2Z4xakVWtK4miY2iHVrpYhYHcUAv9TIfBFlLiIbbuX4vcT54/s1600/015+(2).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBhg_G7j_SNNwHnvfjP8dwx2u8KhBqyWDW1G2MuQYCbHdWrxj0XMDs3GftzD-TPvagmxGgQ3s2e1HW8AdHo0nRn_XY-fRv2Z4xakVWtK4miY2iHVrpYhYHcUAv9TIfBFlLiIbbuX4vcT54/s1600/015+(2).JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
This image conveys sadness to me...the whole time I was creating, I was thinking of the The Cure song "Homesick." On the page next to this I have written lyrics from the song: "inspire in me, the desire in me, to never go home." I am still working on that page and will show it later.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQFH8l4RCDGmDjMjqqLfU9xOJ7szVA0gHIEVeQePtcnr3YOptuXWR-MuGLwxy9voXj9lbRAeEfBM-jIxcxqjhq2upmbSJGDyRY13yRN9W54TKOr_gepg7R9axfoE1SCBDXtsI-L_bjjAnQ/s1600/018.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQFH8l4RCDGmDjMjqqLfU9xOJ7szVA0gHIEVeQePtcnr3YOptuXWR-MuGLwxy9voXj9lbRAeEfBM-jIxcxqjhq2upmbSJGDyRY13yRN9W54TKOr_gepg7R9axfoE1SCBDXtsI-L_bjjAnQ/s1600/018.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>

When you see the picture you will see why. I cannot look at this without smiling. This is my now 9 year old daughter and this is a picture of her in a ballet leotard/tutu when she was about 10 months old and just happy all the time. I remember this time of her life when I look at this page, and it was such a magical time! <br />

<br />
I have made this page for the <a href="http://7dotsstudio.com/archives/category/blog" target="_blank">7 Dots Studio Challenge</a> "magic and wonder" using papers from the 7th wave collection. I have also used Art Anthology paint for the shiny, dimensional look which you can see better in the next photo. <br />

I would like to share a canvas I made with Spring in mind. Hopefully it will be warming up soon where you are! This month the challenge over at <a href="http://www.scrapping4funchallenges.blogspot.ca/" target="_blank">Scrapping 4 Fun Challenges</a> is to use flowers. I have used a <a href="http://www.genuinelyjanestudios.com/newsite/cubecart/index.php?_a=product&product_id=28" target="_blank">wood pail (shovel and pail album)</a> from Genuinely Jane Studios as the "planter." I tried to give it a weathered, rusty look. Then I adhered a piece of Prima Sunrise/Sunset paper on a 12X12 canvas, then I filled with gorgeous Prima flowers.<br />

I'm still feeling quite inspired by Valentine's Day and by hearts in general right now. I made another heart canvas for my sister for her birthday. I am going to enter it into the<a href="http://flyingunicornforums.com/forum/top/7" target="_blank"> Flying Unicorn's</a> heart challenge, as well as the mixed media challenge for <a href="http://www.berry71bleu.blogspot.nl/" target="_blank">Berry 7 Bleu</a>. Thanks for stopping by!<br />

<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
I started off with a 6x6 burlap covered canvas then adhered several strands of lace in white and cream then sprayed them lightly with mist. I painted my heart white, then pink, then used a crackle medium over it. I thought it was kinda too pink but I liked the way the crackling looked so I left it. I sprayed and glittered the resin wings, added some chicken wire and the beautiful pendant and some buttons and small beads. I hope my sister likes the way it came out!<br />
Have a great day!<br />

I got this really sweet <a href="http://www.genuinelyjanestudios.com/newsite/cubecart/index.php?_a=product&product_id=57" target="_blank">pear book</a> in my recent DT pack, so I decided I would make a mixed media book filled with inspiring quotes for me to look at when I'm struggling or having a bad day. I am showing my first page today.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiw7S5YM1qxxFl8-RJkVy-NR2pDfV_PeWlbdqdVpylSu4jaRJeOHl-I22xynQMLqJjV8IbUqApPTIRrfARxZWAuVo0jTo9enbAMum4ddqbohNu4QmeB9VukXNAuxUkuujgFcnxwmSJFON1L/s1600/Hopes.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiw7S5YM1qxxFl8-RJkVy-NR2pDfV_PeWlbdqdVpylSu4jaRJeOHl-I22xynQMLqJjV8IbUqApPTIRrfARxZWAuVo0jTo9enbAMum4ddqbohNu4QmeB9VukXNAuxUkuujgFcnxwmSJFON1L/s1600/Hopes.jpg" height="320" width="246" /></a></div>
<br />
I have used the <a href="http://thecraftersworkshop.com/The_Crafters_Workshop/New_Products.html" target="_blank">Crafter's Workshop stencil #387</a> (spinning tops) with texture paste for the background and<a href="http://thecraftersworkshop.com/The_Crafters_Workshop/New_Products.html" target="_blank"> #398</a> (squiggles) for the leaf. I used 13 Arts "Ayeeda" paint colored pistachio and matte mint. I then applied some sepia colored ink through the stencil on the leaf. Next I added a stamped sentiment and some trinkets with a little ribbon on the top. I really love the versatility and durability of the CW stencils, I just can't get enough of them!<br />

Today I'd like to share a design team layout I made for <a href="http://scrapping4funchallenges.blogspot.ca/" target="_blank">Scrapping 4 Fun Challenge</a> Blog. Challenge #11 is all about monograms! I hope you will go check out the challenge and hopefully participate this month! There are some really cool creations from some guest designers this time also. Here is my layout featuring my cutie pie nephew:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7BFmYsgM7Ktv7muCqBDxTSzq8N4d2aOL3_uAW9CoXrguF4ZuwqO2C5ARQygYKIoAlUWg1Ko_g2rXqb4idWTtiQkGxHiLULekmM4k2PXeNoKJ-Hfh4qp3_I-T1x0dcdIUbN-Ndb5oUSxVg/s1600/Aidansmile.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7BFmYsgM7Ktv7muCqBDxTSzq8N4d2aOL3_uAW9CoXrguF4ZuwqO2C5ARQygYKIoAlUWg1Ko_g2rXqb4idWTtiQkGxHiLULekmM4k2PXeNoKJ-Hfh4qp3_I-T1x0dcdIUbN-Ndb5oUSxVg/s1600/Aidansmile.jpg" height="319" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
The chipboard letters were pink so I altered them by first gessoing them, then painting them teal here and there, then finally adding some embossing powder in white/gold.<br />
Hope to see your creations this month!<br />

It seems like all of these holidays are just sneaking up on me! I was inspired by<a href="http://7dotsstudio.com/archives/category/blog" target="_blank"> 7 Dots Studio</a> "geometrical shapes," and I've used circles and hearts as my chosen shapes. I started out my canvas by adhering papers from the "Messy Head" collection, but they are pretty covered up now with paint and ink! I was also inspired by this picture from the "<a href="http://colorfulcreations2014.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Colorful Creations</a>" blog:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJgBbc2gBUfun6VDdSKuJCOd79hdXhgfJjx7TSXZSOqxiPkNYt7Pg2gFcfHegqVOcpmNIvEHtatcH4xZdvm7i4dZ4QLM2WunXf9PILLxqTkn1z0CyAqOHhDp5IARr7byGrsaLXCOZc6-IF/s1600/big-red-heart-happy-valentine-day-wallpaper-35168-hd-wallpapers-background.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJgBbc2gBUfun6VDdSKuJCOd79hdXhgfJjx7TSXZSOqxiPkNYt7Pg2gFcfHegqVOcpmNIvEHtatcH4xZdvm7i4dZ4QLM2WunXf9PILLxqTkn1z0CyAqOHhDp5IARr7byGrsaLXCOZc6-IF/s1600/big-red-heart-happy-valentine-day-wallpaper-35168-hd-wallpapers-background.jpg" height="150" width="200" /></a></div>
I love the bright pink color and the hearts.<br />
<br />
Here is my 8X10 canvas I created:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhzzkK8ldNLmOS0WfgNKCkUYAR1ELO0nricjo9TdFCipv-mnCcmkTUC_RAVJZMnGcCtUCe4UMC_AeZmFjLb5_u0sM90Kosq75qvLtP3nOkB0x473I0nnyHvOKzBPqCv0vftyjwLhkKUsTFL/s1600/love.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhzzkK8ldNLmOS0WfgNKCkUYAR1ELO0nricjo9TdFCipv-mnCcmkTUC_RAVJZMnGcCtUCe4UMC_AeZmFjLb5_u0sM90Kosq75qvLtP3nOkB0x473I0nnyHvOKzBPqCv0vftyjwLhkKUsTFL/s1600/love.jpg" height="320" width="261" /></a></div>
I used gesso, modeling paste, lace, mesh tape, papers from 7 dots studio, spray ink by 13 Arts and Prima embellishments. Also added some random hearts, buttons and chicken wire. I am going to add this to the <a href="http://www.berry71bleu.blogspot.nl/" target="_blank">Berry 7 Bleu</a> challenge for this month for all the mixed media I added. <br />

I just returned home from a 5 day cruise that sailed from Cape Caneveral, FL to the Bahamas and Castaway Cay (Disney's Island) and it was so much fun. As luck would have it, my one remaining wood book from my design team box was the new <a href="http://genuinelyjanestudios.com/newsite/cubecart/index.php?_a=product&product_id=876" target="_blank">cruise ship book</a>! I decided to fill it with mementos from our trip and plan on also adding pictures when I get them printed. Here is the cover:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjAGY_5S6TOgbiADzvuMIRWOAs5feqq-fZ4KnQxt9RnJxgEoJLWOSi9FGFngDw3BjMWbY0N8lfLr8nLnqh2lqyHKcVIY0lNHkLiCdd_Qm4qwLXtu92muDtU-8OV9KivOxTTrPaeT8wlG6MN/s1600/cover.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjAGY_5S6TOgbiADzvuMIRWOAs5feqq-fZ4KnQxt9RnJxgEoJLWOSi9FGFngDw3BjMWbY0N8lfLr8nLnqh2lqyHKcVIY0lNHkLiCdd_Qm4qwLXtu92muDtU-8OV9KivOxTTrPaeT8wlG6MN/s1600/cover.jpg" height="204" width="320" /></a></div>
I painted the cover with Art Anthology, Ranger and Golden paints, then added a cut out of Mickey from a book that was in our stateroom.<br />

On the second page I added a section of our daily newspaper and also our stateroom number from a room ticket. The third page was in honor of the pirate themed night they had. My girls dressed up as pirates and Disney put on a show and lit off fireworks right of the deck, so cool!<br />

The next two pages represent two of the awesome shows we attended while on board, "Villains Tonight" and "The Golden Mickeys." I was lucky enough to snag some giant mickey eared gold confetti from the show so I added that also.<br />

The first blue page shows the awesome Castaway Cay Island that Disney owns. We stole a few shells (even though the rules were against it but I am a shell freak) so I had to glue one of those on the page too. The next page is to represent our dolphin experience at Atlantis on Paradise Island in the Bahamas. I have wanted to do this forever, it was so cool to be so close to them. I attached our tickets and wristbands, as well as a few pics of the resort and a dolphin of course. I can't wait to get our family photos in the mail!<br />
I had so much fun making this book, I wanted to create something that would remind us of all the fun things we got to do on the cruise. My daughters love it so much and can't wait to show their friends what we did! If you are planning a cruise, have been on a cruise, have a friend who's been on a cruise...I HIGHLY recommend getting one of these super unique, fun albums to create a memory book that will surely be cherished for years to come!<br />
Here is my last page:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

On the back I mod podged some Bingo cards that we used to play with on the boat and a piece of our luggage tag. I cut this picture of the ship out of our in room magazine, then applied the word "remember." Have a great day!<br />

Here is my 16X20 canvas I made for the hop using the Frog Dog Studio January mixed media kit.<br />

<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
I mod podged the tissue paper on the canvas, then added lots of gesso, stamping (using stamps in the kit) and mixed the red and blue Liquitex ink with modeling paste and applied through a few different stencils. I used the pages of the GJS telephone booth book as mini canvases for my close-pin people, who are wearing dresses made out of the kit's telephone embellishments. Here are some close ups:<br />

I'd like to share my creation for the<a href="http://lindystampgang.wordpress.com/2014/01/01/january-color-challenge/" target="_blank"> Lindy's Stamp Gang January color challenge </a>contest. Here is a picture of this month's colors:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhVkIzpqic3m7sWKbqUS5wmSFLWD1uHLgnWPhTtmORT8Yj0Bpnm8RttqVQ0-4O_iK0-8lYcNHl0ISNmYKaGJudBIQhEWAANXxkJkE_GoM-QZH6_EFHmet02ubrj_tF_Y3p8M4bIkWiboopb/s1600/LindysJanpic.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhVkIzpqic3m7sWKbqUS5wmSFLWD1uHLgnWPhTtmORT8Yj0Bpnm8RttqVQ0-4O_iK0-8lYcNHl0ISNmYKaGJudBIQhEWAANXxkJkE_GoM-QZH6_EFHmet02ubrj_tF_Y3p8M4bIkWiboopb/s1600/LindysJanpic.jpg" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
I love the pinks and greys...so pretty! I have been wanting to enter their challenge for a while but never quite had the right colors. I altered an art journal using modeling paste, stamping and Lindy's Starburst Sprays.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTA6TPtZjtOJq0dbWCMV81AtZWEcwTj4dh-ZsAXOcBheVd3Qmit-eDp3ddNhsP8QfGUkf1bJfLWqqud1Dfnz6YW7u-929bM8n_qPnF8gBza4mHz45qo5y7sETSc-KeGz6tA2lQGjsnu-Lo/s1600/artjournal.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTA6TPtZjtOJq0dbWCMV81AtZWEcwTj4dh-ZsAXOcBheVd3Qmit-eDp3ddNhsP8QfGUkf1bJfLWqqud1Dfnz6YW7u-929bM8n_qPnF8gBza4mHz45qo5y7sETSc-KeGz6tA2lQGjsnu-Lo/s1600/artjournal.jpg" height="320" width="243" /></a></div>
<br />
I chose 3 colors Starburst Spray I thought would work for the challenge. I love the look of pink and grey together. The Black Orchid Silver looked really cool sprayed over modeling paste and I didn't really want to add brown to the project so I instead chose black to offset the pink and white. I chose some Prima flowers in the colors of the mood board, as well as some Ingvild Bolme resin pieces and some metal. <br />
